Teacher's Toolbox: Practical Skills for Yoga Instructors with Joanna Dunn
Saturday, May 12, 2012
1:30pm - 4:30pm
$50, $10 off if you register before April 1.
Email yoga@joannadunn.com to register or call 509.470.0542.
Get off your mat, stop demonstrating everything, and teach with confidence using your voice, eyes, and mind. This workshop will give you a "toolbox" with which to approach teaching yoga so that you can truly see your students and help each student develop his or her practice. When we "demo-teach," we and our students get stuck and our classes become stagnant rather than places of growth and development. If you are already teaching off the mat, get out of "aural ruts" and repetitive language. Breathe fresh air into your classes, push your teaching and your students into a new realm with your new toolbox!
This workshop is highly interactive and includes partner work, group discussion, and audio experiences.

Good Spots Philosophy with Karan and Jim Strange
April 27, 2012
6:30pm-8:30pm, $15.
Jim and Karan will discuss their "Good Spots Philosophy," examining the following three separate but interactive components of pain:
- Physiological injuries are inevitable. If left untreated, injuries lead to adhesions of connective tissue, and, accumulated over time, reduce our movement potential.
- Lack of Neuromuscular patterning. Humans have very little hard wired information about how to move, and we learn by watching and experimenting. Optimal neuromuscular patterning is not often taught, so we adapt to the cumulative injuries that we collect through the years.
- Recovery. Stressors are not the things that "kill," it's unrelenting stress that takes us to our demise. To heal, the world of recovery is essential to embrace, including everything from sleep to nutrition.
The Vestibular System: Understanding Sensory Interactions That Produce Upright Control with Noel Caraig, P.T.
September 21, 2012

Ever wonder what it takes to stand in balance? Noel will discuss how the body aligns itself with gravity to allow us to stand and move without falling. Presentation will include how the central nervous system adapts to the conflicting and often rapidly changing sensory inputs from the proprioceptive, visual, and vestibular systems.
